About Nassau County Police Department

The Nassau County Police Department was nominated by Salvatore Barretta of Ironhawk Financial.

The Nassau County Police Department (NCPD) is one of the nation’s largest county police agencies. With a force of over 2,600 officers, NCPD has earned a reputation for its strong commitment to community engagement.

In 2025, the department celebrated its 100th anniversary with a large public parade and block party in Wantagh, drawing thousands of residents and showcasing its long-standing bond with the community. That connection is reinforced year-round through programs like Open House Week, which invites thousands of students to experience interactive demonstrations from specialized units such as K-9, aviation, and bomb squads.

NCPD also invests heavily in youth outreach. Its Law Enforcement Exploring Program gives teens real-world experience in public service, while school visits and presentations foster early trust between students and officers. The G.R.E.A.T. bike patrol and the Overwatch visibility initiative are just a few ways officers stay connected with local neighborhoods.

Behind the scenes, NCPD supports its own through a dedicated Wellness Center and a $54 million Training Village emphasizing readiness and transparency. Through public-facing programs and internal wellness efforts, the NCPD continues to lead with a community-first approach to modern policing.
