About Collierville Police Department

The Collierville Police Department was nominated by Lauren Coffey of Our Infinite Company.

The Collierville Police Department delivers results with excellence. Its purpose is to serve the community by enhancing public safety, suppressing crime, and reducing the fear of crime through professional law enforcement services and programs.

The department's vision is to be a premier law enforcement agency that models excellence in everything they do by building partnerships, improving trust, reducing crime, and improving the quality of life for the community. Its mission is to safeguard the lives and property of the people they serve with honor and integrity. They carry out their duties with the highest ethical standards to maintain public trust.

The department and its officers live by five key values:

Integrity - Carrying out duties with honor and respect while being transparent.
Courage - Having the mental and moral strength to persevere and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.
Collaboration - Believing that community collaboration and the sum of individual contributions achieve more significant results.
Respect - Advocating for diversity and welcoming individual perspectives, backgrounds, and opinions.
Innovation - Embracing change and promoting an environment of creativity, calculated risks, and continuous improvement.

The Collierville Police Department's Community Services Division is a dynamic and dedicated unit that plays a vital role in fostering positive relationships between the police force and the community it serves. Comprised of several integral components, this division is committed to enhancing public safety, engagement, and collaboration.

The following are included in the Community Services Division:

School Resource Officers: The department has a police officer posted in every school within the Collierville School System, which includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. These officers mentor students and provide continual safety and security at each location.

Explorer Program: The division proudly hosts Explorer Scouts, a youth program designed to introduce young individuals to the world of law enforcement. Through hands-on experiences, training, and mentorship, Explorer Scouts develop valuable skills and a deep understanding of the principles of community policing.

Reserve Police Officers: The division includes Reserve Police Officers who voluntarily contribute their time and expertise. These officers, while not full-time, bring a wealth of experience and dedication to assist in various law enforcement activities, providing additional support to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.

Citizen Volunteer Program: Community involvement is at the heart of the division's mission. The Citizen Volunteer Program offers opportunities for residents to actively participate in community policing efforts. Volunteers contribute their time and skills, playing a crucial role in various initiatives, events, and outreach programs that strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community.

School Crossing Guards: School crossing guards are positioned at designated crosswalks near educational institutions. They play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of students as they navigate their way to and from school. Their primary responsibility is to assist children in safely crossing the street. School crossing guards are often present during peak times, such as when school starts and ends, to manage pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow. In addition to their traffic management duties, crossing guards serve as positive role models for students, fostering a sense of community and reinforcing the importance of road safety.

The department received the "Bridging the Gap" Award from U.S. Rep. David Kustoff at the Collierville Chamber of Commerce's Annual Excellence in Business Awards for all its efforts. The award is an exclusive achievement designed to honor an admirable organization that went above and beyond to serve its community. The police department was chosen as this year's recipient for the bravery of officers during the Sept. 23, 2021, tragedy at a local Kroger (active shooter incident). Before the Kroger incident, the Collierville Police Department and Collierville Fire Department conducted joint active shooter training, ensuring a coordinated and rapid response on the day of the tragedy. This preparation undoubtedly saved lives.
